Subject-wise preparation GATE CSE

 

In this blog, I cover everything required to prepare a particular subject for GATE.

Weightage table:


C Programming 

Level of questions: Easy to Moderate

No. of questions: 2-3

Important topics: Pointer, Recursion & Arrays.

Study material: Just do previous 15 years' questions asked in GATE CSIT.

Time required: Around 40-45 hours to complete notes, revise concepts, and practice questions.

Test Series: No test series required.

Standard book:  Denis Ritchie (No need to read)

Accuracy level: 100%


Data Structures

Level of questions: Easy to Moderate

No. of questions: 3-4

Important topics: Trees, Graph & Hashing

Study material: Must do previous 15 years' questions asked in GATE CSIT and give Made Easy topic-wise test for more practice. 

Time required: Around 60-65 hours to complete notes, revise concepts, and practice questions.

Test Series: Made Easy test series (Topic-wise, single subject)

Standard book: Narsimha Karumachi (Read for uncleared topics only)

Accuracy level: 90%


Algorithms

Level of questions: Moderate to Difficult

No. of questions: 3-4

Important topics: Asymptotic analysis, greedy algorithms & sorting techniques

Study material: Must do previous 15 years' questions asked in GATE CSIT and give Made Easy topic-wise test for more practice. 

Time required: Around 55-60 hours to complete notes, revise concepts, and practice questions.

Test Series: Made Easy test series (Topic-wise, single subject)

Youtube channel: Abdul bari Youtube videos (Read for uncleared topics only)

Accuracy level: 90%


DBMS

Level of questions: Easy to Moderate

No. of questions: 4-5

Important topics: Normalization, Transaction management, B/B+ trees & SQL.

Study material: Must do previous 15 years' questions asked in GATE CSIT and give Made Easy topic-wise test for more practice. 

Time required: Around 70-80 hours to complete notes, revise concepts, and practice questions.

Test Series: Go for Made Easy test series only.

Standard book: (No need to read)

Accuracy level: 90%


OS

Level of questions: Easy to Hard

No. of questions: 4-5

Important topics: CPU Scheduling, Process Synchronization & Memory management

Study material: Must do previous 15 years' questions asked in GATE CSIT and give Made Easy topic-wise test for more practice. 

Time required: Around 100-120 hours to complete notes, revise concepts, and practice questions.

Test Series: Go for Made Easy test series only.

Standard book: (No need to read)

Accuracy level: 70% - 100%


COA

Level of questions: Moderate to Hard

No. of questions: 3-4

Important topics: Caching, Addressing modes & Pipeline

Study material: Must do previous 15 years' questions asked in GATE CSIT and give Made Easy topic-wise test for more practice. 

Time required: Around 80-90 hours to complete notes, revise concepts, and practice questions.

Test Series: Go for Made Easy test series only.

Standard book: (No need to read)

Accuracy level: Same as OS


DLD

Level of questions: Easy to Moderate

No. of questions: 2-33

Important topics: Number System, Minimization & Synchronous circuits

Study material: Must do previous 15 years' questions asked in GATE CSIT and give Made Easy topic-wise test for more practice. 

Time required: Around 70-90 hours to complete notes, revise concepts, and practice questions.

Test Series: Go for Made Easy test series only.

Standard book: (No need to read)

Accuracy level: 100%


Maths

Level of questions: Easy to moderate

No. of questions: 4-5

Important topics: Set Theory, Graph Theory, Probability & Prepositional logic

Study material: Must do previous 15 years' questions asked in GATE CSIT and give Made Easy topic-wise test for more practice. 

Time required: Around 40-50 hours to complete notes, revise concepts, and practice questions.

Test Series: Go for Made Easy test series only.

Standard book: (No need to read)

Accuracy level: 70-80%


TOC

Level of questions: Moderate to Hard

No. of questions: 3-4

Important topics: Decidability, Closure properties of Language, DFA, PDA & Turing Machine

Study material: Must do previous 15 years' questions asked in GATE CSIT and give Made Easy topic-wise test for more practice. 

Time required: Around 100 hours to complete notes, revise concepts, and practice questions.

Test Series: Go for Made Easy test series only.

Standard book: (No need to read)

Accuracy level: 80-100%


CD

Level of questions: Easy

No. of questions: 2-3

Important topics: Parsing, SDT, DAG & Machine dependent & independent issues

Study material: Must do previous 15 years' questions asked in GATE CSIT and give Made Easy topic-wise test for more practice. 

Time required: Around 30-40 hours to complete notes, revise concepts, and practice questions.

Test Series: Go for Made Easy test series only.

Standard book: (No need to read)

Accuracy level: 100%


CN

Level of questions: Moderate to Hard

No. of questions: 3-5

Important topics: Flow control, Ipv4, Multi-layers protocol & TCP/IP.

Study material: Must do previous 15 years' questions asked in GATE CSIT and give Made Easy topic-wise test for more practice. 

Time required: Around 120-150 hours to complete notes, revise concepts, and practice questions.

Test Series: Go for Made Easy test series only.

Standard book: Tanenbaum

Accuracy level: 70-100%



Important points:

1. Toppers have around 85-100% accuracy in these subjects.

2. Focussed on the concepts asked in previous years.

3. Must do previous year's questions 3-4 times.

4. Must write a test for all the subjects.

5. Don’t try multiple resources.

  2. Can you share your preferred order in which gate cse subjects should be completed?
    I actually had a doubt
    Can i complete Digital logic and then COA
    And after these two subjects TOC,CD,DBMS,OS,CN
    I have completed Engineering Maths, Discrete maths and Programming data structures and algorithms

      C & DS --> Algorithms --> DBMS --> TOC --> CD --> DLD --> COA --> CN
